Putin is thug and bully, US must massively respond to his actions, - Senator McCain

Putin is a thug and a bully, who decided to demonstrate Russia's power in Syria while America's leadership in the world is weakening.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrinform, this was Senator John McCain's reaction to Russia's air strikes in Syria during his speech in the U.S. Congress.

According to McCain, the place not far from Homs province in Syria, that was hit by the air strikes, is not controlled by the Islamic state. These actions by Putin are aimed at building a strong position in Syria, accommodating in the Middle East and supporting Bashar al-Assad, the senator said.

He recalled that dictator Assad, supported by Putin, has killed at least 250,000 of his own citizens in terrible bombings.

There should be a huge self-deception, he says, to believe that Russia and Iran have some interest in resolving the Syrian conflict, adding they are just trying to preserve Assad's murderous regime in power.

"This is a bad day. It is time President Obama woke up to the realities in the world and reassert American leadership," McCain said.

At the same time, the senator carried on, it does not mean that the U.S. should "send thousands of ground troops back into Iraq or Syria." Meanwile, it means that Washington should develop a policy.

"What we should be saying to Vladimir Putin is that you fly, but we fly anywhere we want to, when and how we want to, and you'd better stay out of the way," McCain said.

He stressed that the situation is more than serious.

"This rogue dictator named Vladimir Putin, who is a thug and a bully, can only understand a steadfast and strong American policy that brings American strength back. We are still the strongest nation in the world. Now it's time for us to act like it," the senator stated.
