Tandit: Our priority is liberation of captive Ukrainians, so we consider exchange of Russian commandos

Ukraine's priority is liberation of captive Ukrainians from terrorists and Russian military. Therefore, the authorized persons are considering an exchange of the captive Russian commandos despite their crimes in the territory of Ukraine.

As reported by Censor.NET citing ZN.UA, this was announced by the adviser to the SBU chairman Yurii Tandit after visiting the captive Russian GRU operatives. "If there is such a possibility and a decision is made to take them (Russian commandos - ed.) over to Russia, of course, we'll do everything to take back our guys. We are open for any dialogue, we fully complete the Minsk agreements. The president's priority is to return as quickly as possible our soldiers, who are illegally kept in the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as in Donetsk and Luhansk," he stressed.

According to him, Ukraine is open for Ukrainian POW release process. "We see the signs of our citizens, we know the names of many of them, we do everything to identify other guys who are illegally kept there. Therefore, if the law allows taking back our soldiers in exchange for the captive Russians, we'll do it," Tandit assured. It is noteworthy that just before the visit Tandit said the trial against the captive GRU officers would begin in September. "According to preliminary information the trial begins in September. We are talking about its taking place here. It is very important for us, because these people committed crimes in the territory of Ukraine, which we defend, and they are not just some citizens of the Russian Federation, who "got lost", they are representatives of elite special forces of the Russian Federation," he stressed.

The Russian GRU servicemen Yevgeniy Yerofeyev and Aleksandr Aleksandrov were taken prisoners by the Ukrainian soldiers near Shchastia, May 16. Russian consul visited the two captives only on May 26. However, they were named "former servicemen" by the Russian Defense Ministry on the next day after the capture. At the same time, the commandos themselves denied this and said they were active servicemen of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
