Volunteers to be involved in fight against illicit spread of weapons from the ATO area, Poroshenko says

President Petro Poroshenko expects to engage volunteers to deter the illicit spread of arms from the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) area.

He said at a meeting with representatives of the law enforcement agencies in Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region), Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"We will also involve mobile teams and volunteers in order to prevent the spread of weapons from the ATO area. And we will give the opportunity to soldiers at checkpoints in conjunction with volunteers to ensure efficient checks of all vehicles," the president said.

Poroshenko stressed that he is going to pay special attention to the issue of illegal arms spread in July and August.

He also noted that mobile teams comprised of volunteers, border guards, paratroopers and taxmen, who will fight both against smuggling and the spread of weapons, will be highly supported.

The president expressed confidence in their efficient work.
