Prosecutor's Office to file notice of appeal against Melnyk's acquittal

Prosecutor General's Office totally disagrees with the acquittal of the ex-rector of the National State Tax Service University of Ukraine Petro Melnyk.

A notice of appeal is being prepared. This is reported by Censor.NET citing the Prosecutor General's Office press service.

The report reads that yesterday the Irpin court of the Kyiv region finished the hearing of the criminal proceeding charging the ex-rector Petro Melnyk of extortion and subsequent receiving of the undue benefit totaling 120,000 hryvnias ($5,200) to facilitate entering the National State Tax Service University of Ukraine.

"Public prosecution presented well-founded evidences of Melnyk's corruption crimes. The PGO offered court to rule a guilty verdict imposing sentence of imprisonment for a term of nine years with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to occupy relevant positions for three years. However, the court concluded the guilt was not proved and ordered the acquittal," the statement reads.
