US Army prepares to counter Russia’s aggression, - US National Military Strategy

The new U.S. military strategy states that the United States military must be ready to counter “revisionist states” such as Russia.

The relevant document was published on the website of the U.S. Department of Defense, Censor.NET reports citing ZN.UA.

According to the strategy document, the U.S. military also must be ready to counter "revisionist states" such as Russia that are challenging international norms as well as violent extremist organizations such as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

While the document notes Russia's contributions in some security areas such as counternarcotics and counterterrorism, it also points to that nation's willingness to use force to achieve its goals.

"It also has repeatedly demonstrated that it does not respect the sovereignty of its neighbors," the strategy states. "Russia's military actions are undermining regional security directly and through proxy forces."

In mid-June, it was reported that the United States offered to send tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy equipment, as well as up to five thousand soldiers to some of the Baltic countries and Eastern Europe in order to curb the probable aggression of Russia in Europe.

June 22, the U.S. announced its intention to provide special forces squads, intelligence and sophisticated military technology for the NATO Rapid Response Force in order to prevent possible aggressive actions of Russia. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey said the Pentagon was ready to deploy additional military forces besides those already present there in the case of aggravation of the situation in Eastern Europe.
