 Poroshenko discussed reforms and further cooperation with EBRD President

President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with EBRD delegation headed by President Suma Chakrabarti.

The parties discussed the progress of reforms in Ukraine, particularly struggle against corruption, reforms in energy and banking sectors. The president emphasized that Ukraine highly appreciates cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and is interested in broadening that cooperation. The Head of State noted that Ukraine is holding reforms despite all the difficulties. "Struggle against corruption is the top priority," Petro Poroshenko assured informing on the launch of operation of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau. He also informed on the struggle against corruption in the judicial system: "The authorities will have no tolerance to corruption".

The Head of State highlighted the importance of further interaction with EBRD for public and private sectors. The president noted the activity of the National Bank of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance on stabilization of the banking sector. "Currently, the banking sector is more transparent and efficient," the president said.

Ukraine is particularly interested in deepening cooperation with EBRD in energy reform.
The Head of State also informed on plan regarding privatization. "It will be absolutely transparent," the President said. Petro Poroshenko drew attention to the efficient introduction of the electronic public procurement system.

In his turn, EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti noted that cooperation with Ukraine is important for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. "Ukraine is facing tough challenges," he said and noted the efficiency of the Ukrainian Government. The EBRD President emphasized the importance of coordination for determining the assistance necessary for Ukraine.

EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Francis Malige noted that conversation with Ukrainian businessmen makes him optimistic about the future of Ukraine. "I see a lot of energy and enthusiasm in these people," he said. According to him, despite all the difficulties, Ukrainian entrepreneurs are trying to reorient their business model to exports to the EU countries. He believes that economic growth of Ukraine will depend on its national products. Thus, it is very important for Ukraine to make the right steps and support entrepreneurship.

The parties agreed with the need for providing the information on the progress of reforms in Ukraine to investors.
