As the additional agreement between the National Oil and Gas Company Naftohaz Ukrainy and Open Joint Stock Company Gazprom expires on June 30, 2015 with no other supply terms agreed today during trilateral talks in Vienna, Naftohaz stops purchasing gas from the Russian monopolist on July 1.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing an official Naftohaz statement.

It reads that the gas transfer through the territory of Ukraine for European clients of Gazprom will be continued in full as per contract terms.

Agreeing upon provisional position on disputable points of the contract between Naftohaz and Gazprom at least until the second quarter of 2016 is an important condition of repurchasing of Russian gas.

"Arrangements should be put forth and fixed in a way that will make each party confident of their fulfillment. The issue of final settlements between Naftohaz and Gazprom will be addressed during an arbitration proceeding regarding the gas supply contract between Naftohaz and Gazprom in the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce," the press service stresses.

The organisation states that to avoid unnecessary escalation in the gas dispute and prevent risk of delays in supply to European consumers in winter, Ukraine and Europe offered Russia to agree on such a transitional solution. Unfortunately, Russia has not received the offer refusing to sign the trilateral government agreement.

Naftohaz hopes that with assistance of the European Commission the parties will come to accord on proper conditions of gas supply from Russia to Ukraine.

"Naftohaz is ready to take part in trilateral talks on the issue in any time agreed by the parties," the press service resumes.
