According to experts' preliminary conclusions, the boat of the State border guard service of Ukraine was undermined on June 7 near Mariupol by an improvised explosive device that drifted by the sea from the occupied territories.
"During examination of the accident cite and the damaged boat experts came to conclusion that an improvised explosive devise has detonated. It was made of a wooden cross, cellular foam elements, and an object in form of a metal cylinder with a tracking device. Border guards that were on board took it for a radio beacon and tried to drag it closer to the boat. At that moment the device worked and an explosion occurred. As a result the boat was damaged and the people on board got injured in different ways," the report said.
This was not the first such incident, the Headquarters said. "A similar device had been thrown out of the sea not far from Vynohradne village recently. A fisherman who found the object tried to dismantle it and it ended tragically for him."

"Both incidents have in common the fact that the devices drifted from the occupied territories being under the fighters' control, in particular from Bezymenne village. There was a strong wind in both cases," the press center informed.
"We warn and alert all the fishermen and other persons who use small boats in the ATO area: do not approach and do not touch unknown objects in the water or thrown out to the shore. Inform the specialists from the State Service on Emergency Situations immediately," the press center added.
