When law enforcement officers tried to arrest a 41-year-old man, he barricaded himself in his Kyiv apartment, took his infant son hostage and threatened to use firearms and explosives in case if police tried to enter.

As a result of negotiations the father released the child and was subsequently detained.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing the press service of the Kyiv police.

According to the report, in September 2014 a group of armed men, including the detainee, came to a cottage (dacha) cooperatives located in Obolonskyi district of the capital. The perpetrators claimed to be fighters of a volunteer battalion, which was disproved later. During their detention they threatened law enforcement officers with use of weapons. After the arrest the police seized an automatic gun, two pistols, 400 rounds of different caliber ammo, and a grenade.

Criminal proceedings under pt. 1, Art.263 (illegal handling of weapons) and pt. 4, Art. .296 (hooliganism committed with firearms or knives) of the Criminal Code were initiated. The perpetrators were released by the court.

Two days later the men, once again armed with firearms, came to the coop again; the residents called the police. On that day, patrolmen who arrived at the scene were injured. The offenders were detained. Criminal proceedings under pt. 1 Art. 263 (illegal handling of weapons) and pt 1, Art. 345 (threat of violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code were initiated, the suspects were detained.

A few days after by the decision of the Obolonskyi district court the three attackers were released under personal responsibility, and the today's detainee was put under house arrest, but he left the place of residence and disappeared. Since the man did not turn up for investigative actions and court hearings, he was placed on the wanted list. On May 15, 2015 the court issued a warrant for his arrest and elected the preventive measure in the form of detention.

On May 25, police officers arrived to his residence with a search warrant and the man barricaded himself with his infant son. As a result of negotiations, the child was freed and the perpetrator detained.

The law enforcement officers found and seized almost 700 rounds of ammunition of 5.45 and 7.62-mm calibers, presumably a Kalashnikov gun, and nine magazines for it in his apartment. The detained was taken to Obolonskyi district police station for further investigative actions. Right now the police is examining his involvement in other crimes in the capital.

During a search of a Mercedes E-200 recently used by the suspect, the police found PTN-PNH (short for F#@k Putin in Russian/Ukrainian - ed.) license plates, handcuffs, a metallic object similar to a hatchet, and a black woolen balaclava.
