Putin may get involved in release of detained Russian commandos - State Duma

In addition to the Defense and Foreign Ministries of the Russian Federation, President Vladimir Putin may get involved in the matter of releasing the detained Russian special forces troops captured in Ukraine.

This was stated by First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma on Defense Sergei Zhigarev in a comment to Russian television channel Dozhd, Censor.NET reports citing Liga.

"Of course, not only the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but all the relevant authorities will be engaged in rescuing them as citizens of the Russian Federation. We do not abandon our citizens under the Constitution, we must help them - we must help them and get them out of difficult situations, wherever they are," he said.

According to Zhigarev, Russia has never denied that its so-called 'volunteers' take part in the fighting in the Donbas.

"Therefore, anything can happen in the course of the fighting: people may die or be wounded, they may be captured. And for that we have the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for that we have an ambassador in Kyiv," he said.

"The contacts can take place at a higher level. I do not rule out that the president of the Russian Federation in a personal conversation with President of Ukraine Poroshenko can raise this issue," Zhigarev concluded.
