Markevych dedicated Dnipro’s victory to Ukrainian soldiers in the ATO area

Myron Markevych has devoted his team’s victory over Napoli and its passage to the finals of the Europa League to those who are now fighting in the ATO area in Ukraine's Donbas.

This was stated by the head coach of Dnipro Football Club in an interview with 2+2 TV channel, Censor.NET reports.

"We played for the people who believed in us. I realize that we played against a serious team. There were a lot of skeptics, but ... when I saw the percentage of those who believed in us, [I understood] that we could not lose today," he said.

"These matches are never easy. We knew who we were playing against. Today the team played much better than in Naples, and deservedly won," the coach said.

Asked about what he would say to his players in the locker room, he replied: "I don't even know what I will say ..."

"They created a miracle, which no one, to be honest, was expecting. I knew they could do it. I did not think that the stadium would be full; I knew there would be a lot of people. And the fact that the whole of Ukraine came... I am overwhelmed with emotions," he said.

According to Markevych, Napoli is a good team, and it is the second team in Italy after Juventus.

"I have not thought about the finals yet. Today we played for the people. Especially for those guys who are now in the ATO (soldiers fighting taking part in the anti-terrorist operation in east of Ukraine - ed.). I'm sure they were watching the game. So, guys, it was for you in the first place," the coach concluded.

Russia's leading sports web portal Chempionat quoted Markevych on the victory, but left out the phrase that it was dedicated to the Ukrainian soldiers.
