"Our position remains consistent: Crimea is part of Ukraine, that is why we continue to put pressure on Russia" - U.S. State Department

Press secretary of the U.S. Department of State Marie Harf commented on recent statements of former President Jimmy Carter after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who called the Russian annexation of Crimea inevitable, citing the Soviet-Russian roots in the region and, in his opinion, what the people of Crimea wanted.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing the Voice of America.

"I'm not going to get into the mind of President Putin about why he made decisions about what to do in terms of Crimea, annexing part of Ukraine, part of another country," Harf said.

She also stressed that "We have remained consistent that Crimea is a part of Ukraine, that's why we've put sanctions on, that's why we continue to put pressure on. Obviously, there are enormous challenges here," Harf said.
