President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur regretfully notes that, despite the agreement reached in Minsk and the UN Security Council resolution, violence in eastern Ukraine has not stopped, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.
The statement of the PACE president notes that the fighting was particularly intense in Debaltseve, where Russian-backed separatist forces have a clear intention to extend their control over the region.
Brasser called it a flagrant violation of the cease-fire agreement.
She noted that there can be no military solution to the conflict, and once again called to observe the cease-fire as the only chance for a long-awaited peace.
Brasser also expressed support for the calls of EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and PACE rapporteur Kristyna Zelienkova about the necessity of safe corridors for all those wishing to leave the area of Debaltseve.
