Yefremov made bail and is to be released - Lawyer

Ukrainian MP Ihor Mosiychuk (Liashko Radical Party) stated that a bail was paid for the arrested former MP Yefremov and he was going to walk free. Later it was confirmed by Yefremov’s lawyer Oleksandr Melnikov.

This was stated by Mosiychuk on his Facebook page, Censor.NET reports.

He wrote: "Grimaces of the Ukrainian court proceedings. Oleksandr Yefremov is being released from custody. His Party of Regions companions paid his bail in the amount of 3.7 million hryvnia (about $150,000 - ed.). How can such a small bail of 3.7 million can be set for a person who stole hundreds of billions of public means? And now, this will be a test for the Ukrainian law enforcement: if Oleksandr Yefremov leaves Ukraine, which of them is ready to resign? Prosecutor General? Chairman of the SBU?" he asked.

Later the information was confirmed by Ukrainian News citing Yefremov's lawyer Oleksandr Melnikov.

"I confirm that today the bail was paid for Mr. Yefremov," he said. The lawyer noted that on Feb. 16, immediately after the court hearing, Yefremov was placed in the detention center.

One of Yefremov's supporters, Opposition Bloc MP Yurii Voropaiev told Ukrainska Pravda that bail for the arrested ex-leader of the Party of Regions faction Oleksandr Yefremov was paid Tuesday morning.

Voropaiev noted that he does not know who was able to pay 3.7 million hryvnia for Yefremov. The MP stated that the money will be transferred by Yefremov's son, who has his own company, or a former Party of Regions MP Borys Kolesnikov.

Voropaiev also said that Yefremov visited the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) on Riznytska street on Tuesday afternoon. The opposition MP assumes that no one is planning to let him go and that the PGO may charge him with new crimes.
