General Staff: Marines, paratroopers, and Donbas battalion deter the enemy at Shyrokyne

The General Staff of the armed forces of Ukraine states that marines, paratroopers from Mykolaiv, and Donbas battalion are deterring the enemy aggression near the village of Shyrokyne; no other units of the ATO forces are present there.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"Marine corps units, Mykolaiv paratroopers, and Donbas battalion are deterring the enemy aggression near the village of Shyrokyne, repelling the attacks of the terrorists and not allowing the bandits to move into the territory of Ukraine. There are no other ATO units involved in the tasks at this section of the demarcation line," the press service of the General Staff said on Monday night.

The report notes that throughout the day the militants repeatedly fired at the Ukrainian units using mortars and tank weapons; the manpower and means of the militants were being suppressed by return fire.

In turn, the press officer of the M sector Dmytro Chalyi told the agency that the ATO forces use only small arms in response to the militants' attacks.

"The situation is generally calm across the sector, except for the village of Shyrokyne. The attacks and provocations by the enemy have gone on for two day. They use mortars, tanks, and small arms against the Ukrainian military. We do not use our artillery, and respond only with small arms," he told the agency on Monday evening. Chalyi said that there are units of the armed forces and the National Guard in Shyrokyne.
