There will be nothing left for the EU except imposition of sanctions if Normandy quartet negotiations fail – Finnish prime minister

If the negotiations of the Normandy Four fail in Minsk, the EU would be left with sanctions only.

Prime Minister of Finland Alexander Stubb stated, Censor.NET reports citing Yle.

Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb does not have high hopes that the Minsk talks to resolve the situation in the east of Ukraine will be successful. According to the Finnish Prime Minister, the situation is extremely tense, and the negotiations will be very difficult.

"Let's hope that these negotiations will take place at all," the prime minister said.

Stubb hopes that Russia will have enough will to achieve peaceful resolution of the crisis in Ukraine. He noted that the EU will have only one option, if it cannot reach agreement in Minsk. This option is the imposition of economic sanctions, he stressed. According to the Finnish prime minister, the new package of sanctions will come into force next week, if any progress is made in Minsk.

The prime minister noted that leaders of Germany and France, Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande, have put their reputation on the line to find a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
