Minsk “Normandy four” summit is a crucial point - Mogherini

The meeting of "Normandy Four" in Minsk on Feb. 11 is a turning point, which will set the events in a ‘better or worse’ direction.

This was stated by EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Censor.NET reports citing Evropravda.

According to her, the meeting will be a chance for Russia to help resolve the crisis.

She noted that even if an agreement was reached, the difficulties would not end, but negative results of the meeting would allow for any imaginable turn of events, some of which could be alarming.

Mogherini said that today Russia had a chance to be a responsible player, to exercise its influence on the separatists to find a solution to this crisis, to restore peace and respect of the international rules that it violated.

The high representative added that Russia should stop viewing its relationship with the European Union as a confrontation, adding that EU and Russia are neighbors, although they are not partners at the moment. The European Union is not a project aimed against anyone, she added.

Mogherini stated that it should be clear that Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia should make their own decisions about their future and their present.

Earlier, Federica Mogherini said that German Chancellor and French president had the official mandate of the European Union to negotiate the settlement of the crisis in the "Normandy format."
