Poroshenko introduces Shokin’s candidacy for prosecutor general to the parliament


President Petro Poroshenko asks the Verkhovna Rada to approve the new candidate for the post of Prosecutor General.

The president proposes the parliament to appoint Deputy Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin the head of the Office. The relevant draft resolution "On granting of consent to the appointment of Viktor Shokin as prosecutor general of Ukraine by president of Ukraine" #2084 was registered in the parliament on Tuesday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainian News.

62-year-old Shokin has been serving as Deputy Prosecutor General since Jun. 27, 2014.

Prior to that, he was deputy prosecutor general in 2002-2004.

Since 1999, he served as a major case investigator of the Prosecutor General's Office.

Earlier, Poroshenko introduced a decree on the dismissal of Vitalii Yarema from the post of the prosecutor general to the parliament.

According to media reports, on Monday Shokin was appointed acting prosecutor general.
