Lavrov refused to "sacrifice Russia's national interests" in Ukraine. Kerry responded that "Russia will have to pay more"

Russia will be judged by actions and pay more if attacks in the Donbas continue.

United States Secretary of State John Kerry commented on his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Censor.NET reports.

"Just met with Foreign Minister Lavrov. Reiterated need for immediate resumption of ceasefire, withdrawal of heavy weapons and closing the border in Ukraine. Made it clear again to Foreign Minister Lavrov that deescalation is in everyone's interests. Russia will be judged by actions and pay more if attacks continue," Kerry wrote on Twitter.

Commenting on the meeting, Russia's Foreign Ministry stated that "promotion of the confrontation to increase sanction pressure on Russia is futile."

"We will not give up our national interests and principle position on key issues, but at the same time, the Russian side is ready for both bilateral constructive cooperation with the United States and international cooperation, since our countries have a special responsibility for global stability," the press service wrote.

Lavrov and Kerry met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

On Sunday, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin should conduct phone negotiations about the situation in the Donbas.
