Poroshenko: Today's negotiations bring hope of cease-fire


President Petro Poroshenko is holding a meeting with President of France Francois Hollande and Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel who arrived to Kyiv to discuss the ways of peaceful resolution of the situation in the Donbas.

At the beginning of the meeting Petro Poroshenko has thanked Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande for "their significant role in the process of de-escalation, establishment of peace in Ukraine and efforts already made for the stabilization of the situation," Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the president.

The head of state has expressed gratitude for the united support of Europe towards Ukraine. "The EU demonstrates unity and solidarity in the Ukrainian issue. It is extremely important for us," Poroshenko stressed.

The president noted that today's negotiations with Chancellor of Germany and the president of France "let us hope that there will be a result in the cease-fire".

The head of state has stressed that all the parties had to fulfill the Minsk agreements, which provide for the immediate ceasefire, liberation of all hostages, border closure, withdrawal of foreign troops from the Ukrainian territory, launch of the political process through the holding of local elections under the Ukrainian legislation in the occupied territories. Also, the president noted the necessity of serious steps for the economic development of the region, including free economic area, restoration of social payments and, most importantly, humanitarian mission.
