MPs took a step towards Anti-Corruption Bureau creation


Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved as principle the draft bill 1660D amending legislative acts regulating the activity of the State Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the National Agency of Ukraine on Prevention of Corruption activity.

283 deputies voted in favor of the bill, Censor.NET reports.

Previously, the deputies failed to pass the draft on the first try. A debate sparked within the coalition members in the session hall on the issue of the appointment and dismissal of the head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Hroisman recessed the meeting after noisy exchanges in the parliament to let the faction heads to find a trade-off.

Hroisman urged to take into account all values and vices on the appointment and dismissal of the Anti-Corruption Bureau head prior to the second reading.

Earlier, the People's Front refused to empower the president to appoint the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Director from the candidates chosen by the selection board. The People's Front deputies insisted on keeping the existing norm of the law, according to which the parliament should provide its consent to the appointment of the bureau's director.
