First Deputy Minister of Interior Zghuladze explains who is eligible to become a police officer in Ukraine

Anyone can become a police officer in Ukraine. The officers will be selected in open competitions.

This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ekaterine Zghuladze, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Ministry.

"Anyone can take part in the competition. The criteria - age 18-35. The selected applicants will be enrolled into academies. I am sure that not all of them will graduate. But those who will are going to be the new police," Zghuladze said.

She also added that these competitions will have other criteria for the selection of candidates for the policeman's job.

Zghuladze also noted that the weakest points in Ukraine's Interior Ministry today are corruption and duplication of functions. "The fight against corruption should be systematic and we will abolish duplicate functions of the services."

The problem of corruption in the Interior Ministry, according to Zghuladze , will be fought in two main directions: "Punitive measures and construction of the system in a way that will assist in minimizing corruption," the deputy minister said.

"Rebuilding our image is our initial task and a very difficult one," she added.
