Russia’s behavior cannot but alarm. We want clarity, Lukashenko says

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expects clarity from Russia regarding Belarus.

He stated this at a meeting of the Security Council on Dec. 16, Censor.NET reports citing BELTA.

"The behavior of our eastern brother today cannot but cause concern. But we, including myself, are not making any conclusions yet, before talking to the Russian president," the head of state said.

"I still want to find out: why is there such a policy of the Russian Federation with regard to Belarus," Lukashenko said.

"But we cannot disregard it, of course," Lukashenko said. "We are not dramatizing the situation, I emphasize once again. We just want clarity."

"We once stated that the main threats to our country lie in the economy; there is and there can't be a threat from some other things, including non-governmental organizations, some radical opposition. The authorities, though poorly, meet the interests of the people," said the president. "Despite the fact that some have lost heart and stopped working, people tolerate this power."

Lukashenko also stressed that the economy of any state is a very dangerous direction of impact, especially for export-oriented one and considering the current situation.
