Ukrainian Thermal Power Plants’ Coal Reserves to Be Exhausted Within 2-10 Days: 19 Power Generating Facilities Are Already Idle - Ukrenerho

The State Enterprise Ukrenerho in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine introduced the power limit schedules cutting power from 08.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 04.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. Dec. 10, 2014 aimed to save 2,116 MW.

Considering low efficiency of the imposed power limit schedules, the State Enterprise National Energy Generating Company Ukrenerho instructed to use emergency schedules of power cuts at 08.57 a.m. in the amount of 3,119 MW according to the power imbalance value in the consolidated energy system of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing the Lvivoblenerho press service.

The State Enterprise Ukrenerho informs that the imbalance between generation and demand appeared because 28 power generating units at the thermal power plants of the energy generating companies, which are not part of the Ukrenerho, were disabled through emergency applications submitted by these companies. 19 of the mentioned units were disabled due to low coal stocks in warehouses of the thermal power plants (the coal reserves in these power plants will maintain the work of the facilities during the period from two to ten days). Another reason for the imbalance is lack of water resources for hydro-electric power plants," the press service quotes the statement made by Ukrenerho.
