U.S. Security Council Concerned by Intensified Fighting in Eastern Ukraine

The White House warned that any efforts by pro-Russian rebels to seize more territory would be a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire agreement signed in Minsk in September.

"We are very concerned by intensified fighting in eastern Ukraine, as well as numerous reports... that Russian backed and supplied separatists are moving large convoys of heavy weapons and tanks to the front lines of the conflict," U.S. National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said, Censor.NET reports citing BBC.

"We continue to call on all sides to strictly adhere to the ceasefire. Any attempt by separatist forces to seize additional territory in eastern Ukraine would be a blatant violation of the Minsk agreements," she stated.

In addition, the spokesperson said that Russia should provide the ability to restore the sovereignty of Ukraine, establish control over the Russian-Ukrainian border by the OSCE, as well as release all hostages.

"We continue to emphasize that compliance with the framework of the Minsk agreement is the best chance to achieve a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine," the representative of the NSC stated.
