As reported by Censor.NET citing lb.ua, Feb. 7, the Verkhovna Rada will review a draft law on formalizing the course towards Ukraine’s EU and NATO membership in the constitution. The law also excludes the norm on the possibility for the foreign state to rent military bases in Ukraine.
300 MPs will have to vote for the draft law to be adopted.
The draft law supplements the constitution's preamble by confirming the European identity of the Ukrainian people and the irreversibility of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic course. The articles defining the powers of the Verkhovna Rada, the president and the government will be supplemented by provisions on the implementation of the state’s strategy to obtain membership in the EU and NATO.
The document also excludes the norm in the constitution allowing the use of existing military bases in Ukraine territory for the temporary stay of foreign military on a rental basis.
