NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe Asked Pentagon for More Troops Due to Russian Threat

In the face of sustained Russian incursions into Ukraine and the dozens of fighter and bomber flights that have skirted European airspace in recent weeks, the head of US European Command has come to the Pentagon to ask for more troops and equipment.

Additional Alliance forces are needed in Baltic countries, Poland, and Romania, the American general said on Monday, Censor.NET reports citing DefenseNews.

Breedlove warned that the NATO alliance is entering a "strategic inflection point" with Moscow.

"The Ukraine-Russia border is wide open in these places," he said. "Russian equipment, resupply, training flows back and forth freely," including about 300 Russian advisers working with Ukrainian separatists.

While the Russian troop presence along Ukraine's border has by most accounts fallen from a high of about 18 battalions to seven in recent weeks, Breedlove announced that he is asking the Pentagon leadership for more troops in order to reassure allies.
