 Escalation in Donbas: one Ukrainian soldier killed, three wounded in 24 attacks by Russian proxies

The security situation in the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) area substantially deteriorated over the past 24-hour period as Russian-led forces increasingly used heavy weapons inflicting casualties on the Ukrainian troops.

As reported by Censor.NET citing the latest update by the JFO headquarters press center as of Dec. 4, combined Russian-separatist troops mounted 24 attacks on the government forces using weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements in seven cases.

"The enemy employed 120- and 82-mm mortars, anti-tank missile systems, armament of infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers of various systems, large-caliber machine guns and small arms against the defenders of Krymske, Novozvanivka, Troitske, Luhansk, Avdiivka, Pisky, Slavne, Taramchuk, Berezove, Novomykhailivka, Krasnohorivka, Starohnativka, Vodiane and Shyrokyne. The Ukrainian troops also came under sniper fire.

The Ukrainian troops’ strongholds near Krymske, Pisky, Novozvanivka, Shyrokyne and Vodiane village in the littoral area of the Sea of Azov were bombarded with 82-mm mortars while the Joint Forces fighters deployed in the vicinity of Luhanske came under strikes with 120-mm mortars. The defenders of Krasnohorivka were shelled with anti-tank guided missiles. In addition, the invaders employed armament of infantry fighting vehicles against the Ukrainian troops near Troitske and Vodiane.

"One Joint Forces fighter was killed and three were wounded in action," the casualty report reads.

Intelligence sources indicate two invaders eliminated and another five wounded yesterday.

It is also reported that today, Dec. 5, the enemy fired upon the Ukrainian forces’ stronghold in the vicinity of Taramchuk village using no heavy weapons. The attack inflicted no casualties on the government forces.
