PGO requests parliament’s consent for stripping MP Berezkin of immunity, prosecuting him

Ukraine’s top prosecutor asks the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to give consent to arrest, place in pre-trial custody and prosecute a member of Volia Narodu parliamentary group Stanislav Berezkin.

"Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko filed a motion to the Verkhovna Rada to secure its consent to prosecution, consent to the detention and consent to imposition of pre-trial restraint on Ukrainian MP Stanislav Berezkin," spokesperson for the prosecutor general, Larysa Sarhan, wrote on social media, Censor.NET reports.

The motion was initiated by Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) Nazar Kholodnytskyi.

As reported, members of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutors Office detained 10 people on Oct. 23 in connection with a $20-million embezzlement case involving state-owned savings bank Oshchadbank and the family of lawmaker Stanislav Berezkin.
