Suspect in masterminding attack on Handziuk transferred to SBU remand prison, prosecutor general says

Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko held a meeting on the pace of the probe into murder of Kherson activist, adviser to the Mayor of Kherson and acting manager of affairs at Kherson City Council's executive committee Kateryna Handziuk.

"Katia Handziuk’s death moved me as deep as a personal loss. I’ve just closed the meeting. The investigation by the National Police, which did not stop for a day, which included 367 interrogations, 21 expert examinations, polygraph test and other legal proceedings, will be soon completed," Ukraine’s top prosecutor wrote on social media, Censor.NET reports.

He assured that the perpetrators and the mastermind of the attack, who had been identified and apprehended, shall be brought to justice.

"In order to establish the person who ordered the hit, the suspect in masterminding the murder was transferred to the Kyiv-based remand prison of the Security Service of Ukraine in late October. Everything that I promised Katia when I visited her at the hospital will be fulfilled," the prosecutor general said.

He also expressed sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the activist.

As reported, Kherson City Council executive officer, Kateryna Handziuk, who tried to deal with local separatists and harshly criticized the authorities, namely the law enforcement officials, was doused with acid in Kherson early on July 31.

On Aug. 2, she was urgently taken from Kherson to Kyiv by an air ambulance.

On Aug. 3, the law enforcers detained the person suspected of perpetrating attack on the activist.

She reportedly died of a blood clot in a Kyiv-based hospital on Nov. 4 after long treatment.
