Poroshenko: "Handziuk's killers must be found, held accountable"

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko confirmed the death of Kateryna Handziuk, former acting administrator of the executive committee of the Kherson City Council and advisor to the Kherson mayor and called on law enforcement officers to find those responsible for attack on her.

"I have just been informed that activist Kateryna Handziuk, who was attacked by an inhuman who doused acid over her, unfortunately died in the hospital," he said in Turkey at the opening ceremony of the center of the Ukrainian community in Antalya on Sunday afternoon, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

The head of state called on law enforcement officers to find those responsible for her death.

"I want to urge the law enforcers to make every effort to find and punish the murderers, so that they find themselves in the dock. And we all need to pool our efforts in order to make it happen," Poroshenko said.

As reported, Kherson City Council executive officer, Kateryna Handziuk, who tried to deal with local separatists and harshly criticized the authorities, namely the law enforcement officials, was doused with acid in Kherson early on July 31.

On Aug. 2, she was urgently taken from Kherson to Kyiv by an air ambulance.

On Aug. 3, the law enforcers detained the person suspected of perpetrating attack on the activist.

She reportedly died of a blood clot in a Kyiv-based hospital on Nov. 4 after long treatment.
