 Ukraine’s draft state budget-2019 provides for 100.6B hryvnia in military spending, - Defense Ministry

The draft state budget of Ukraine for 2019 includes allocation of 100.6 billion hryvnia for the needs of the Armed Forces. The military compensation is planned to be increased by 40 percent.

Defense Ministry’s Finance Department Director Serhii Diachenko said in an interview with the MoD-run newspaper, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

"Next year it is planned to allocate 55.6 billion hryvnia for military compensations and wages (increased by about 40 percent compared to 2018); nearly 17 billion for armament and military hardware (purchase, upgrade, R & D, overhauling, communication equipment installation); 4.1 billion hryvnia for the construction (refurbishment) of military facilities, the construction (purchase) of apartments for military personnel," Diachenko said.

According to the military official, the budget requested by the ministry for 2019 exceeds the military spending included into the next year’s state budget by 12 billion hryvnia. He expressed the hope that the amount of defense expenditures would be increased in the course of drafting the bill on the national budget for the second reading.
