Ukrainian army reports one soldier killed in Donbas over past day as Russian proxies mounted nine attacks

Combined Russian-separatist forces reduced the number of attacks in the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) zone over the past 24-hour period but nevertheless used heavy weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements.

As reported by Censor.NET citing the latest update by the JFO headquarters press center as of Oct. 23, the Russian-led forces committed nine attacks on the Ukrainian troops’ strongholds with 82-mm mortars being used in an assault against Avdiika defenders.

The Russian occupation forces deliberately fired upon the defenders of Stanytsia Luhanska, Avdiivka, Marinka, Starohnativka, Pavlopil, Vodiane and Hnutove. The Joint Forces fighters decisively suppressed the enemy firing points.

"The invaders employed 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers of various systems and small arms against our troops’ stronghold in the vicinity of Avdiivka. The defenders of Pavlopil and Vodiane came under fire from grenade launchers including from the automatic ones and small arms.

"One Joint Forces fighter was killed in action over the past day. No soldier received combat injuries," the report reads.

The press center also noted that despite ongoing hostilities the defending units of government forces continue to reinforce their strongholds, take measures to gain vantage points and give a fitting rebuff to the enemy.

Intelligence sources indicate one invader eliminated and another four wounded yesterday.

"As for today, Oct. 24, the enemy fired upon the Ukrainian troops’ stronghold in the vicinity of Taramchuk village, the Donetsk section of the forefront, with heavy machine guns and small arms inflicting no casualties on the Joint Forces fighters," the JFO HQ added.
