Crimean fishing vessel Nord detained in Ukraine to be auctioned off

The Ukrainian National Agency for Tracing, Recovery and Management of Crime Assets (ARMA) transferred attached Nord fishing vessel to SETAM OpenMarket state-owned enterprise for sale.

"In accordance with the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, this vessel will be sold before the decision on its confiscation. The funds from its sale will be transferred to ARMA’s bank account pending the court ruling," the press service of the agency quoted Head of ARMA’s legal department, Andrii Potiomkin, as saying, Censor.NET reports.

The vessel was built in 1989 in the city of Azov (Rostov Oblast of the Russian Federation). It is 23.6 meters long and 6.5 meters wide. Its main engine’s power is 165 kW, net capacity - 32 tons.

According to ARMA, the online auction will take place on Nov. 7. The opening price will be 1.6 million hryvnia.

Last week, Kyiv-based prosecutor's office in charge of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea handed over the Russian fishing vessel Nord to the ARMA.

On March 25, the Ukrainian Border Guard Service arrested the fishing vessel flying the Russian flag in the Ukraine's water zone of the Sea of Azov. The check showed that the vessel had previously called into Crimean ports in violation of the Ukrainian legislation.

On April 4, arrested vessel’s captain Vladimir Gorbenko was brought to Kherson for bail hearing. He was charged with violation of the order of entry into the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and departure from it under part 2 of article 332-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On April 6, Kherson city court remanded Nord’s captain in pretrial custody until May 31. He was later bailed out after 35,240 hryvnia (about $1,330) was posted for him.

The employees of the General Consulate of the Russian Federation tried to smuggle Nord’s crew out of Ukraine on the night of April 8.

The day before, the vessel’s crew members were fined for unauthorized entry to the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and leaving it.
