NABU undertakes legal proceedings against Ukraine’s foreign intelligence deputy chief

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has opened criminal proceedings against First Deputy Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Serhii Semochko.

NABU Director Artem Sytnyk said delivering his speech to the members of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Corruption Prevention and Counteraction, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"The criminal proceedings have been registered under part 2 of article 368," he said responding to the question of MP Viktor Chumak. NABU undertook legal proceedings against Semochko following recently released journalistic investigation.

Part 2 of article 368 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code provides for liability for official accepting a bribe.

Journalists earlier found out that the family members of the Foreign Intelligence Service Deputy Head Semochko own luxury real estate worth $8 million, expensive cars, and often fly helicopters. Moreover, eight relatives of the official have Russian citizenship. According to media reports, more than 200 people died because Semochko, while heading the Economic Counterintelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine, intervened in the supply chain of the dialysis chemicals which caused their shortfall.
