Minsk-based Donbas negotiation arena needs to be relocated elsewhere, Ukraine’s Ambassador to UN Yelchenko says

Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN, Volodymyr Yelchenko says the delegation of Belarus to the United Nations votes against any Ukraine’s initiatives and proposals on regular basis.

He said in a commentary to Priamyi TV channel, Censor.NET reports citing Liga.

The diplomat advocates transferring the negotiations of the Trilateral Contact Group on the Donbas from Belarus "to some other country’s capital city." According to him, the Belarusian delegation to the UN persistently votes against any initiatives and proposals made by Ukraine. He believes this reflects the country’s certain stance while big conclusions must be drawn about it.

"It seems to me that we need to draw serious conclusions about the position of Belarus, about the position of Kazakhstan. Everything is clear with the votes of Syria and North Korea, they are just proxies. But as for our neighbors, if you will, our former partners in the Commonwealth of Independent States, I cannot understand why they vote against," Yelchenko said.

In his view, Belarus' statements on its "neutrality" actually sound weird under such circumstances.

"I personally completely support, I do not remember who suggested it - some parliamentary group in our Verkhovna Rada, that we just need to move this arena from Minsk to some other country’s capital city. With all due respect to Belarusian diplomats, I just don’t get such a stance. What neutrality can we talk about after all?" the diplomat said.
