Minister Nasalyk on gas price: "It will be increased, but I cannot say to which extent"

Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk says the price of natural gas for Ukraine's enterprises and households is likely to grow after talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"What will be the outcome of negotiations? The preme minister has already announced that we cannot hold unconstructive talks with the IMF. There will be an increase. I cannot say to which extent, because I am no party to the talks," the minister told journalists on Wednesday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

According to him, the increase is likely to align the price of gas for the population and the price of gas for industry.

As is known, in accordance with the clause on the imposition of special duties on natural gas market subjects for securing public interests in the process of functioning of the natural gas market, which was approved by Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolution No. 187 dated March 22, 2017 (as amended), Naftohaz of Ukraine NJSC supplies natural gas to household consumers at a price of 4,942 hryvnia per 1,000 cubic meters (not including VAT).

While signing contracts with industrial consumers and other business entities from Aug. 30, 2018, Naftohaz offered natural gas at a price of 10,208 to 11,115 hryvnia per 1,000 square meters (not including VAT), depending on the volume of purchase and payment terms.

On Sept. 6, the IMF mission arrived in Kyiv to work in Ukraine until Sept. 19, to discuss economic policies, as well as the next steps, including financial assistance in support of maintaining macroeconomic stability and ensuring economic development towards sustainable and inclusive growth.
