As reported by a correspondent for Censor.NET, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said at today’s government meeting that former commander of Skhidnyi Korpus Company of the National Police, Oleh Shyriaiev, was meant.
"Regretfully, some of those involved in the said events are veterans of the war in Ukraine’s east who fought in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard, and the National Police," he said.
The minister stressed that "neither military rank nor merits in the past free a person committing such crimes from responsibility."
"Our position is very tough: we will not tolerate any alternative force regulating the law including in commercial matters. That’s the power of the state and the key foundation of the economic development," Avakov said.
"About 55 people were detained of which 22 were served with charge papers today. These individuals have been detained pending trial which will be held tomorrow," he said.
He also announced the detention of a former Ukrainian serviceman, ex-commander of Skhidnyi Korpus Special Operations Company, Oleh Shyriaiev.
"I expect the National Police to take necessary measures to detain one of the NGO leaders, a well-known person who led the National Police company Skhidnyi Korpus, Mr. Shyriaiev, and serve him with charge papers," the minister said.
In addition, Avakov said that he was going to give due assessment to the actions of the local police chief.
According to the minister the scale of illegal takeovers is growing throughout the country especially during harvesting.
As reported, five persons received gunshot wounds in the course of hostile takeover of a grain elevator in Zanky village, the Kharkiv region, on Sept.11.
