It is necessary to create equivalent of Mossad to retrieve Yanukovych from Russia, - prosecutor

Public Prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko believes members of specially created unit equivalent to the Israeli Mossad must bring Ukraine’s ex-President Viktor Yanukovych back to the country if he is convicted of high treason.

"Law enforcement agencies must do their best to enforce this decision," Hromadske.TV quoted Kravchenko as saying, Censor.NET reports.

"Maybe a unit similar to Mossad (Israeli intelligence agency - Ed.), for example, should be created so that the Special Forces infiltrate the territory of the Russian Federation and bring him to Ukraine," the prosecutor suggested.

The prosecutor also expressed confidence that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has no right to overturn the verdict of the Ukrainian court, even despite the complaints of the runaway president’s defense.

"It (the ECHR - Ed.) can only point out the violation of rights. As for the interrogation of Yanukovych, who is on the wanted list and hides in another state’s territory, we hold special judicial proceeding – the trial in absentia. I believe that the Obolonskyi court acts correctly and in line with the law since there is a decision of the ECtHR saying that if a person is wanted, hides in another state and if the court provided no possibility to interrogate one at least via Skype, this is considered a violation," he explained.

Kravchenko says the ECHR allows interrogations via videoconferencing and therefore the rights of the accused have not been violated during the trial.
