As reported by Censor.NET citing local television channel UA Rivne, the wife of the deceased said her spouse, 58, was returning from a nursing home for the elderly where he worked as a plumber. He always got to work by bicycle.
Journalists found out that a member of the Sarny District Council, Petro Zembitskyi, 35, was behind the wheel of Audi Q7. This was confirmed by deputy chief of the Main Police Directorate in the Rivne region, Oleksandr Panasiuk. The police also said the driver was under influence. He had a blood alcohol concentration of 1.27 ppm.
The law enforcers initiated criminal proceedings but did not detain the driver. According to Panasiuk, the investigators will decide whether to serve him charge papers or not based on the results of the expert findings. This can be done only by agreement with the regional prosecutor given the driver’s immunity.
