Infrastructure Minister Omelian: Government considers option of cutting railroad link with Russia

Ukraine may come up with suspending rail operation with Russia. The government is now considering this option.

This was said by Ukraine’s Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian, Censor.NET reports citing TSN.

"We are now considering the option of closing the railroad communication with Moscow," Omelian said.

In the summer of 2017, the Russian media outlet Kommersant said citing a source in the Ukrainian government that Ukraine was allegedly preparing to close passenger rail routes with Russia from July 1.

However, Ukraine’s state-run railroad operator Ukrzaliznytsia PJSC contested this information. The railroaders said the report on cutting railroad link with the Russian Federation from July 1 was false.

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine announced the complete cessation of air link with the Russian Federation from Oct. 25, 2015.
