SBU initiates probe into actions of DniproAzot PJSC management over liquid chlorine shortfall

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) starts investigating the actions of the DniproAzot PJSC executives which led to the shortfall of liquid chlorine – the agent critical for uninterrupted supply of potable water to the population. The shortage created prerequisites for disrupting operation of the life supporting infrastructure which constitutes serious health hazard.

"Since June 15, 2018, the management of DniproAzot PJSC has suspended manufacture of liquid chlorine and its shipment to the companies supplying water throughout Ukraine in violation of contractual obligations and without prior notice. This makes disinfection of drinking water impossible, creates a risk of mass poisonings and epidemics. The SBU also checks whether several-fold increase in the agent’s price on its way from the manufacturer to the end user is reasonable," Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the SBU press center.

As noted, based on the investigation findings, the law enforcers will determine the nature of the actions that paved the way to a possible emergency situation.
