FSB inspected and released vessels in Sea of Azov heading for Ukrainian ports, - Border Guard Service

Ukrainian vessels which were reportedly detained by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) were just inspected.

Assistant to the Chairman of the State Border Guard Service Oleh Slobodian told Ukrinform, Censor.NET reports.

"In this case, we are not talking about detention of the ships but about their inspection. They were inspected and continued their way," Slobodian said.

He recalled that the Russians have started inspecting foreign vessels heading for the Ukrainian ports in the Sea of Azov since late April.

"In this context, we are hostage of circumstance because the Sea of Azov has been considered the sea of internal use by Ukraine and the Russian Federation since 2004. Either party can freely move around the Sea of Azov and be virtually at any point. Another thing is that the Russian Federation did not hold such inspections before but now it uses them as part of the economic and political pressure on Ukraine," the border guard stressed.
