Poroshenko urges Putin to release Ukrainian hostages, intensify efforts within Normandy Four

In today’s phone conversation with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko underscored the importance of Ombudsperson Denisova’s admission to Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia.

As reported by Censor.NET citing the statement by the Ukrainian president’s press office, Poroshenko called for the release of Ukrainian hostages held in Russian prisons and in the occupied territories.

He also said it was critical to grant Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova access to Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian prisoners.

Poroshenko stressed the need for Russia to comply with the part of the Minsk agreements concerning security. He also said that it was vital to intensify joint efforts of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia (the Normandy Four) in order to coordinate views regarding deployment of the international UN peacekeeping mission in the occupied part of the Donbas as an important step in implementing Minsk peace accords.
