"It will be gradual. We’re not going to fall into Russia’s traps," – FM Klimkin on UN peacekeepers deployment in Donbas

There will be no elections in the Donbas without security being provided in the occupied areas.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Gordon media outlet, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said in an interview with Channel 5 that the logic of Russia’s actions as for the Ukrainian Donbas is to not change anything and legitimize its protectorate there.

"Our logic is security in the first place and after that we start working on normal elections. How would the local elections look like? The formula of elections should include the return of Ukraine's government to the Donbas. The French support it while Russia sees it just as legitimization taken out of context. And the last Normandy Four meeting shows that Russia continues sticking to this policy," he said.

Klimkin noted that the deployment of peacekeepers in the Donbas was seriously discussed for the first time at the last meeting.

"Now the idea is as follows: it [the deployment of UN peacekeepers] will be gradual. We cannot launch a full-scale [peacekeeping operation] at once. However, we need a strategy and all the logic and consistency of the peacekeeping operation. We’re not going to fall into Russia’s traps without it," Ukraine’s top diplomat summed up.
