Wage floor in Ukraine to be increased up to 4,200 hryvnia by end of year, - Deputy PM Rozenko

Ukraine’s government plans to raise the minimum wage by the end of the year.

Deputy Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko said on air of Priamyi TV channel on June 14, Censor.NET reports.

"When we are talking about whether there will be or there will be no increase in the wage floor, I hold fast to optimism. I am convinced that the initiative to raise [the wage floor] up to 4,200 hryvnia that was voiced not by a political force but by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will be implemented. We are going to take this step," he assured.

Rosenko stressed that the Cabinet "will never pursue populism."

"We are not going to print funny money of the National Bank of Ukraine to do this like it was done before when the former leaders raised salaries prior to the elections which subsequently triggered inflation. We will make steps taking into account the real economic situation," he said.

The official also recalled that Ukraine’s economy showed growth in Q1 2018.
