Ukraine’s parliament speaker to British Armed Forces minister: "We are no gray zone but Europe’s shield"

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii met with UK Minister of the State for the Armed Forces, Colonel Mark Lancaster.

"I believe that the new reformed Ukrainian army will be the guardian of peace in Central and Eastern Europe while joining NATO is vital element for our security," the press service of the Ukrainian parliament quoted Parubii as saying at the summit on June 12, Censor.NET reports.

The parliament speaker stressed that the support of Ukrainian political prisoners and pressure exerted on Putin regarding their release remains the key issue for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian official drew attention to the need to maintain and expand sanctions against Russia since "Putin sees any mitigation of sanctions as a sign of weakness."

"These are the most pressing issues on the agenda which require solidarity and support," Parubii said.

UK’s Armed Forces minister called the support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces a mutually beneficial cooperation.

The parties discussed the creation of an analytical center to counter common threats from Russia. "In order to understand the current warfare, one must realize that combat operations are not its only component whilst its bigger proportion is information and cyber threats," Parubii said.

"We are no gray zone - we are the shield of Europe. We defend the whole of Europe and the aid that we receive from you is critical for us in this context," the Ukrainian politician stressed.
