Kanter was born in Kyiv on July 27, 1981. He graduated from the Kiev Lyceum of Natural Sciences No. 145.
In his first year in college (in 1998) he worked as a correspondent for the government-run TV channel.
He founded Lizard Films studio in 2003 which produced about 50 shorts, several full-length films and documentaries.
His most famous works include The Cyborgs movie about defenders of the Donetsk airport and a documentary about opera singer Vasyl Slipak who was killed in action in the Donbas.
In 2007, Kanter settled down in a small village of Obyrok in the Chernihiv region and turned it into an art hamlet where he gathered friends from all over the world, held festivals, creative events, handcraft-related activities, and public holidays.
