"The situation that took place at the Wall of Remembrance at Triokhsviatytelska Street this weekend is inadmissible and should never repeat again," the press office of the Kyiv City State Administration quoted the agency’s First Deputy Chairman Mykola Povoroznik as saying, Censor.NET reports.
The official was talking about the garbage cans and public washrooms installed right next to the memorial for the duration of a public event on the Mykhailvska Square.
"The negligence and shortsightedness of the city crews gave rise to that incident. I am convinced that no one of the public utilities employees meant to desecrate the memory of the deceased or to offend the feelings of their relatives," Povoroznik said and offered his sincere apologies to the families, relatives and friends of the fallen heroes.
He assured that the persons responsible will be punished while such incidents will never recur in the city.
