Ukraine's FM: numerous casualties prevented due to SBU operation involving Babchenko

Ukrainian intelligence managed to prevent multiple casualties by uncovering preparations to kill Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko and commit a terrorist attack.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said at a joint press briefing with his German counterpart Heiko Maas in Mariupol on Friday, Censor.NET reports citng Interfax-Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian Security Service [SBU] is sure that without all the measures that were undertaken, there would have been further killings, and they would have been impossible to prevent. As long as the investigation is moving ahead, the Prosecutor General's Office will continue to inform the public and the international community about what has been prevented," Klimkin said.

Russian security services use virtually all methods in their activities, Klimkin said. "Russia's destabilization tactics include virtually all measures, and we should be prepared to oppose it," Klimkin said.

Russian writer and war correspondent Arkady Babchenko reportedly died of gunshot wounds to the back after he was attacked entering his apartment in Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district on May 29.

On May 30, it turned out that Babchenko was alive and unharmed while the SBU conducted successful special operation to detain those who plotted attempt against him.

On May 31, the Shevchenkivskyi district court of Kyiv imposed a 60-day pretrial detention  without bail option against Borys Herman suspected of masterminding assassination attempt against Babchenko.
